Interesting numbers from 2nd Ind v SA ODI

5          Number of times India have won the second game after losing the first game of a bilateral ODI series at home out of last six series. The only time India failed to do so in recent times was against Pakistan in 2013.

67        Number of times MS Dhoni has remained unbeaten in an ODI – same as that of Australia’s Michael Bevan. Now only Shaun Pollock and Chaminda Vaas (72 each) are ahead of Dhoni.

100      The match was Dhoni’s milestone match at home. His tally also includes three matches played for Asia XI.

2          Number of times Dhoni has scored 90+ runs and effected 4 dismissals in the same ODI. Kumar Sangakkara is the only other wicketkeeper to perform this feat more than once.

4          Number of times an Indian wicketkeeper has scored a fifty and effected four dismissals in the same ODI.  Three of those instances belong to Dhoni, while Parthiv Patel featured in the remaining one.

12        Number of consecutive ODI innings Virat Kohli has now played without scoring a fifty. He never had a sequence of more than 7 innings without a fifty previously.

3          Number of consecutive ODIs Dhoni had lost against South Africa at home before winning this one. Believe it or not, this is Dhoni’s longest losing streak against a particular opponent at home (along with a streak of 3 matches against Australia).

100      Percent – India’s winning record at Indore’s Holkar Cricket Stadium – four wins in four games!

Interesting numbers from 1st Ind v SA ODI

278     Runs scored by Rohit Sharma in three matches so far (two Twenty20 Internationals and one One-Day International). All other Indian batsmen together could manage only 272.

150     Rohit Sharma’s innings – highest by any batsman in a chase against South Africa. The previous best was an unbeaten 145 by Zimbabwean Brendan Taylor at Bloemfontein in 2010. Rohit’s innings is also the highest by any batsman in all ODIs getting out caught and bowled.

140     Number of wickets taken by Ravi Ashwin – joint-most by an Indian spinner after first 100 ODIs. Anil Kumble also had an identical tally.

73        Number of balls taken by AB de Villiers to race to his hundred- second fastest by a South African against India. The fastest was also scored by AB himself – off 58 balls at Ahmedabad in 2010. In fact South Africa’s three fastest hundreds against India have come off AB’s bat only!

41        Number of overs for which India were ahead of South Africa in runs comparison – from ninth to 49th . India still lost the match!

21        Number of ODI hundreds scored by AB de Villiers. All of them have come at a strike-rate of 100 or more. Among other batsmen with 10 or more hundreds, only one – Pakistan’s Ijaz Ahmed – has scored all of his hundreds (10) at a strike-rate of 100 or more.

2          Number of batsmen to score a hundred against India off the last possible ball of team’s innings- Mohammad Yusuf (then Yusuf Youhana) in 2000 and AB de Villiers today. Both reached their hundred with a six!

1          South Africa became the first team to post a total of 300 at Green Park, Kanpur.

4          Number of consecutive T20Is lost by India under MS Dhoni, starting from World T20  final loss against Sri Lanka. This equals India’s longest losing streak under his  captaincy. India also had lost 4 matches on the trot under Dhoni in 2009.

29     Number of wickets taken by Ravi Ashwin in T20 internationals - the most by any  Indian bowler. The previous record was held by Irfan Pathan with 28 wickets.
